Altrusa International of Gainesville Club History

The organizational dinner of the Altrusa Club of Gainesville was held at the Hotel Thomas in Gainesville on Saturday, May 31, 1958, at 7:00 p.m. Following the program and dinner, a workshop was held for the new members relative to the carrying out of the club’s business.

The program consisted of the Altrusa blessing given by Elizabeth Cornelius and a welcome address given by Leila Stetson, president of the Altrusa Club of Jacksonville. Leila also introduced the guests. Greetings from other clubs were read by Edythe Nonemacher and the history of Altrusa was given by Sara Williams. The Altrusa program was reviewed by Lydia Selley.

The members of the newly organized Gainesville club were initiated by Roberta Williams, Governor, District Three, Altrusa International, Inc. Following the initiation, the club adopted its constitution. Lucille Alexander installed the officers and presented the president’s pin. The officers were as follows (from original minutes):
